We are happy to announce that several of our graduate students will be receiving partial funding to present their work at the SIAM Annual Meeting in Portland this summer, following two competitions sponsored by SIAMUW.

Congratulations Ben Liu, Beth Sutherland, and Matt Farrell!

SIAMUW was chosen by SIAM as one of only 12 students chapters (out of 178) selected to send a representative to participate in Student Days and present a research talk in a special symposium, in addition to representing UW in the Chapter Meeting with SIAM Leadership breakfast.  This is a great reflection on SIAMUW!  Several students applied for this in an internal competition, submitting descriptions of their research and their involvement with SIAMUW.  A joint student-faculty committee evaluated the proposals and selected Ben Liu for this honor.

In addition, the SIAMUW poster session on January 31 had two joint winners, Beth Sutherland and Matt Farrell, out of a collection of excellent posters.

Thanks to all who came to the poster session and to the SIAMUW leadership for organization and sponsorship.

Students are encouraged to get involved in SIAMUW, and to join SIAM -- it is free for students and among other benefits you receive SIAM News and get a 30% discount on SIAM books.  And it's a great organization to stay involved in wherever your career takes you.
