Final Exam

Valid starting Autumn Quarter 2009.

The preparation of a dissertation brings the student to the Final Examination. This exam should be scheduled three weeks prior to the exam date, or more if so desired by the student’s supervisory committee. The exam consists of an oral presentation of the completed research in a seminar open to the public, to be delivered as part of the Department of Applied Mathematics Seminar Series. After the seminar, the student is expected to defend his/her contributions and results by responding to questions from the audience in a public session*, and by members of the Supervisory Committee in a closed session.

* Final exam defense presentations are expected to be open to the public. During the scheduling process, students may contact the Graduate Program Advisor at amath-gpa@uw.edu to request restricted access to the public portion of the exam.

To remain FERPA-compliant, we will seek written permission before advertising student presentations beyond program faculty. Presentations are typically advertised on our departmental calendar and an email announcement to current students and faculty. Students may update their directory release settings through MyUW.
