Title: Nondegeneracy of bound states

Abstract: For the nonlinear Schrodinger equation and related equations, it is often important to understand the spectral properties of the linear operators obtained by linearizing the equation about bound-state solutions. In particular, it is often useful to know that the kernel of such an operator is spanned by the derivatives of the bound state. In this case, we say that the operator is nondegenerate. In this expository talk, we discuss nondegeneracy and its role in investigating the dynamics of solutions.
