For the tea time discussion on Tuesday February 13th I wanted to bring up the article which tells us about how the Combinatorics Initiative between San Francisco State University (SFSU) and the nation of Colombia ( started by Prof. Federico Ardila) has built an active community of more than two hundred mathematicians, most of whom are members of underrepresented groups in mathematics. This article summarizes this story and shares some lessons they have learned about broadening and deepening representation in mathematics.
