How Machines Can Make Mathematics More Congressive

Submitted by Ingrid Richter on

Cheng is the author of the book, X+Y: A Mathematician's Manifesto for Rethinking Gender, and this paper utilizes terms she coins in that book; ingressive and congressive. Ingressive behaviors are individualistic and competitive while congressive behaviors are collaborative and inclusive. It is important to think about the ways that we can do better and bring this idea to the broader mathematics community as TAs, instructors, and researchers. Thinking about making math a more community and collaborative driven space helps everyone and incorporating technology is a necessity in the present day and age.
