Heather is interested in applied questions that require and inspire new ideas in the design and analysis of numerical methods. Many problems she works on lie at the intersection of approximation theory and numerical linear algebra. Current active projects include developments related to fast transforms, Fourier integral operators, direct solvers for elliptic PDEs, and nonlinear approximation methods for applications in numerical linear algebra and signal processing.
